After coming back from Tierra del Fuego I have been spending my time on getting pictures of Red Kite. Spending the weekends in Frenninge on Österlen (or as close as you can get) where it normally is quite a few of these birds when the snow is hitting hard. The first trials where just a few days of coming back. It snowed heavily and never got light enough. A blue shadow was hanging over the fields. I got some Common Buzzard to come down but they were obviously beaten down by the snowstorm.

The following Saturday we woke up with a Sparrowhawk in the garden in Lund. It stayed for more than an hour and was trying its luck with small birds eating from our feeder but our small visitors were smart and stayed in the hedges and we never saw the hawk hitting any prey. I could get some good pictures with my 300 mm/2.8 from the kitchen window. Quite a luxurious hide this time!

Sunday the 2 of February I am back in Frenninge and this day I am lucky. Apart from the grey weather and a rather slow morning where noting happened the first freezing hours I then got several Common Buzzards that got into fights and then the Red Kites arrived. They were fighting the Common Buzzards and strangely enough the Red kites were beaten up by the Common Buzzards. I would have thought it should be the other way around. The Red Kites are beautiful and grandiose birds. You see their faces and I am always impressed with the sharp looks.
